Re: Our inquiry in Zahir's class + Zalika's (esp. Delpit). Has anyone thought about the timing of this information? What if we were to have taken these courses at the end of our program? Would they have had the same impact? L&C has an agenda; an agenda that I don't necessarily disagree with. Nevertheless, I don't think it's coincidental that we're exposed to the "savage inequities" at this point in our program. It's been calculated to deliver the maximum impact. Again, not a bad thing. All's I'm sayin' is, let's view this through a critical lens. We're all fired up. And that,my friends, is where they want us to be. When I went to the "information session", staff made it clear that L&C's mission is to develop agents of change. We're all there. What I'd like you to ponder is what impact it would have had if we had Zahir's class a year from now, at the end of our program, instead of at the beginning. The foundation of our inquiry has an intelligent design....not that there's anything wrong with it!

ReplyDeleteOh, forgot to add, I'm sure there is some intentional planning, but since that was my personal agenda before classes started, I'm ok with it. Depending where you do your teaching, at the end of the program, you'll either see these books as out of touch or barely scratching the surface of the problems we face.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely strategic. We're all amped on the inquities and injustices and have a newfound eagerness to rectify them all, now I'd really like to get some classes on how we can impact the system and what moves are within our power. Will we get those?
