I believe...

The classroom is a place for learning, creativity, growth and free expression. Classrooms should be inviting spaces that all children regardless of class, ethnicity or race can feel the comfort in which to learn. Students learn to accept themselves and their fellow students through exploration of different cultures and backgrounds. The classroom should be thought of as a community of unique individuals who bring both different and similar experiences to the table. This community should be one where children are encouraged to share their thoughts, ideas and questions.
I believe schools should create an atmosphere that is inviting to students, teachers, staff, parents and the community. It should be a place where people can come for support if they have questions, concerns, ideas or struggles they need to express. It should be a place where teachers can turn to their colleagues and administrators for help or ideas. Students should feel inspired to learn by their school environment. It should be a place where all feel welcome and excitement in coming every day.
I believe teachers can make a difference in children’s lives. By giving love, support, room to grow, encouragement to explore and question students can become empowered in their own learning process. I personally remember having a few shining examples in elementary school of wonderful teachers, and these teachers I believe truly made an impact in my life. If teachers are open to their students, the classroom can be an arena not only for learning but for personal growth. Children should not be singled out for their beliefs, religion, culture or race and teachers can do this by helping to foster an environment an acceptance and community.
