I believe that children are our future, teach them well and let them lead the way

In my classroom I value my students and their community. I think it's essential (especially after the readings) that teachers are a part of the community. In order to "know my students" I must get involved in who they are and where they are coming from, and I must be a part of it. I can't see how a teacher could teach children without being a part of it. I also value differences. I want everyone to be different and be comfortable expressing those differences.

I believe teachers can be good teachers without all having the same teaching styles. I think just like diversity in the classroom, diversity in teaching styles is essential. Sure I might have an idea of how I want to teach...but there can't be the ying without the yang. What works for someone might not work for someone else. There is no wrong way. There is no right way. There is just the way that works for each student. I strive to be open-minded and self aware in my teachings and understandings.

I believe that children deserve a quality education. One that is equal to what other children are receiving across the universe. There was a quote in the book about being equal doesn't necessarily mean getting the same treatment or experience, but getting what you need when you need it. I think all children should be challenged intellectually, all students should be given a chance to reflect on their work, and most importantly all students should be given an opportunity to make mistakes without any repercussion.
