I Believe...

I believe a classroom needs understanding. I think that it is important for teachers to have an understanding of what the children needs are, what they should learn, and understand their different experiences, backgrounds, families are what contributes to who they are and how they learn. I also think the children need to understand that they need to respect others - teachers and their fellow classmates. Overall, I think there needs to be common understanding (includes respect) in the classroom, to create a safe environment where the children feel like they can share with each other and work well with everyone.

I believe children deserve an opportunity to do well. In my classroom, I want everyone to feel as if he or she can succeed. I want each child to feel that they can succeed in at least one if not more areas of learning (math, science, pe, music, art, reading, writing). I believe that each child deserves a chance to be a great learner and to excel and the teacher is the one to facilitate it.

The classroom is the place where learning and acceptance begins and judgment and failure gets checked at the door. I want my students to feel like their classroom is their second home, a place where they feel comfortable and accepted. Learning should be the top priority but along with that coincides the importance of individual well-being. Meaning that the well being of the child comes first, and I would like the classroom to be a place where he or she feels comfortable enough to express his or her individual needs to me.
