Wow- l loved reading everyone's post

Thank you for sharing such intimate parts of yourselves everyone. I used to really hate this question as well as the one about 'and what do your parents do?' Arg. I write in spirals so had to find the best thread to follow. I enjoyed reading each post and it also reminded me how important it is to have a consistent warmth and openness every day when I am in the classroom. For some children it is there only real safe place, whether they are aware of it or not. In retrospect, it was certainly one of the safest places for me! I also liked what Andrea's analogy about how she had put the 'old stuff' into a box. At first I felt like my box had been emptied all over the table but as I listened I heard pieces of me reflected in each story, that we each have a special place for all those special, amazing and horrific moments. It is nice to think about them in shoe boxes stacked high in the closet, taking one down at a time when connecting with others but remembering that I can keep the lid on it and . Anyway,
Here is mine:

I am from . . .
summer fun at grandma's & pa's
fields of wheat and cattle
playing in the hen house & makin' mud pies
eating ice cream and swimmin through moss

runnin' wild in the city, gangs of kids
ridin' bikes and playing with match box cars
Star Wars and 3 wheelers
Hershey Kisses and Coca Cola

fist fights and ugly words
hand me downs and worn out shoes
left behind but heard
a father imprisoned
a twin torn down, a brother's mind escapes
leaves smoked, dreams deterred

spiraled back by crossing the tracks
making pots and finding friends
late night dancin' and
good mornin' brunches
fast feelings and long journeys
crash test love & late night sci fi
lost innoncence to found enlightenment
Legions of love from the legendary Odysseus
Finding out that giving life is receiving life:
Thank you for my Zoe Aphrodite Pearl
